Seongjusa Temple Site is the strongest inland sight in Boryeong. The temple began in the Baekje period and later became one of the important mountain-school sites of Korean Seon Buddhism. Today the draw is the open archaeological site: pagodas, stone lantern remains, foundation stones, and the sense of a large temple complex reduced to its bones.
It rewards a slower visit than the beach. Look for the stone pagodas and the memorial stele for Buddhist priest Nanghye, then place the site within the mountain landscape around Seongju.
