Cheongpyeongsa

Mountain Buddhist temple above Soyang Lake, reached by road or boat-and-walk excursions

Cheongpyeongsa is the most rewarding excursion from Chuncheon proper. The temple was founded in the 10th century on the slopes of Obongsan, and the approach through lake and forest is as important as the temple buildings.

The classic outing combines Soyang Lake with a walk up to the temple, passing water, woods and old stonework along the way. Give it time; this is not a quick taxi stop.
