Seongyojang

Large upper-class Joseon residence with courtyards, pavilions, and old Gangneung domestic architecture.

Seongyojang is a preserved Joseon-era residence built for a wealthy local family. The curved roofs, wooden rooms, and garden pavilions make it a good counterpoint to Ojukheon: less famous, but better for imagining daily elite life.

Come when you have time to wander rather than tick it off. The charm is in the proportions of the courtyards and the way the buildings sit quietly under the hills.
