Dongguksa is a small Buddhist temple built in Japanese style in 1909, during the colonial period. Its dark timber, low roofline, and restrained layout feel quite different from most Korean temples.
It is one of Gunsan's strongest sights because it makes the city's complicated history visible without needing much explanation. Pair it with the modern-history museum and the old Japanese houses nearby.
