Gitdaebong is Hongdo's highest point, rising above the harbour and the protected forest that covers much of the island. Visitors cannot wander freely across Hongdo, but the designated walking paths give you a legal way into the island's steep interior.
The climb is short by mountain standards but rewarding, with views over the village, the Yellow Sea, and the ragged coastline. Wear proper shoes; the island's small size does not make the paths flat.
