The Namgang Yudeung Festival is Jinju's best time to visit. For several October nights, lantern installations, floating lanterns, fireworks, and performances take over the river around the fortress.
The event is rooted in the old use of lanterns as signals during the Imjin War, but the modern festival is more celebratory than solemn. Book transport and rooms early if you are coming specifically for it.
