Bonghwangsa is a small Buddhist temple outside central Nonsan with a local tradition linking it to the Baekje period. Its name is tied to a legend of phoenixes descending from the sky and settling here.
It is a quiet stop rather than a major temple complex, but it fits well with nearby Nonsan heritage sites such as Donam Seowon and Gwanchoksa Temple.
