Hyoseok Cultural Town is a selective stop, but a good one if you want Pyeongchang beyond skiing and temples. Bongpyeong is associated with writer Lee Hyo-seok, whose story "When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom" turned the local fields into a literary landscape.
The timing matters. Around the late-summer buckwheat bloom and festival the place has a clear reason to be on your route; outside that season it is quieter and best for travelers with an interest in Korean literature.
