Batticaloa Lighthouse stands near the lagoon mouth at Palameenmadu, about 5 km north of the city centre. Built in 1913, the white tower rises above a quiet stretch of coast and lagoon edge.
It is a simple stop rather than a major attraction, but the ride out gives a better sense of Batticaloa's watery geography than staying in the old town alone.
