Gandhi Park is a central green space on Puliyanthivu, close to the lagoon and several old-town landmarks. Its best-known feature is Batticaloa Gate, a monument associated with the former port connection between the island and the mainland.
The gate is also linked in local memory with the arrival of Methodist missionary William Ault in 1814. It is worth a short stop while walking between the fort, churches, and waterfront.
