Railay Beach

Railay Beach is the essential boat ride from Ao Nang. Sheer limestone cliffs wall off the peninsula from the mainland, leaving beaches, caves, climbing routes, and footpaths accessible only by sea.

West Railay has the classic arrival view, while the eastern side is mangrovier and less swimmable. Climbers come for the bolted routes; everyone else comes for the scenery. Go early if you want any quiet.

A story
Railay is cut off from the mainland by cliffs, so it feels like an island even though it is a peninsula. That accident of geology helped make it one of the world's best-known sport-climbing beaches.
