Chalong Bay Rum is a small craft distillery in Chalong, producing rum from locally grown sugarcane rather than imported molasses. Tours of the distillery run daily and take about an hour, covering the pressing, fermentation, and distillation process, and ending with a tasting of the different expressions. The setup is compact and hands-on — this is not a big commercial operation, and the tour guides know the process in detail.
The on-site bar is one of the better reasons to visit even if you skip the tour. Cocktails made with the house rum are served alongside bar snacks in a garden setting surrounded by sugarcane fields. It is a genuinely pleasant spot in the afternoon, and the rum mojito is widely agreed to be the drink to order. The distillery also sells bottles to take away, including limited and aged expressions not always available elsewhere.
