Rattanarangsarn Palace is a teak reconstruction on a hill above town. It recalls the royal residence built for King Rama V's visit to Ranong in 1890, when this remote tin-mining border province was being pulled more firmly into the Siamese state.
The building is not ancient, but it gives useful context for Ranong's Chinese-Thai elite families and its old importance as a frontier province. The hilltop setting also makes it a good first stop for reading the town's layout.
