Surat Thani's City Pillar Shrine stands on the former site of the provincial administration building. The old building was destroyed during the Japanese invasion in 1941, rebuilt in the 1950s, and later destroyed again by a bomb in 1982.
The shrine is an active religious site, so dress modestly and remove shoes where requested before entering.
