Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon is the nine-storey stupa at Wat Nong Waeng, rising beside Bueng Kaen Nakhon. It is Khon Kaen's strongest sight and one of the most recognisable religious buildings in Isan.
Inside, murals and relic displays lead upward through the levels. The upper floors give excellent views over the lake and the city, especially late in the day when the heat softens and the temple grounds become busy.
