Wat Sala Loi is tied to the Ya Mo story: local tradition says Thao Suranari founded it after the fighting against Anouvong's army. The temple's modern ubosot is the reason to go. It is shaped like a Chinese junk, with clean white lines, ceramic detail, and a look quite unlike the standard Thai temple form.
It sits a little outside the old centre, so take a tuk-tuk or taxi unless you are already exploring the northeast side of town.
