Wat Thaton is the reason most travelers stop. The monastery spreads across the hillside above town, with nine stations climbing from the river level toward chedis, Buddha images, a meditation centre, and broad views over the Kok River valley.
You can walk, cycle, or arrange a ride up, but walking gives the place time to unfold. The upper viewpoints are best early or late in the day, when the heat drops and the river plain below has more shape.
