The beach at Thuan An stretches for several kilometres where the Huong River flows into the sea at the mouth of the Tam Giang Lagoon. The sand is wide, the water warm, and the setting — with fishing boats moored at the river mouth and a line of casuarina trees along the shore — is genuinely attractive.
This is primarily a local beach rather than a tourist resort, which gives it a refreshingly unpackaged atmosphere. Vietnamese families come here on weekends, and on quieter weekday mornings the beach is nearly empty. Simple seafood restaurants along the shore serve the catch of the day: grilled prawns, steamed crab, and fish soup.
