Swedish Hut

Treaty-protected survival hut from the 1903 Swedish Antarctic expedition.

The Swedish Hut is a rough stone shelter tied to one of the great survival stories of Antarctic exploration. Three men from Otto Nordenskjöld's expedition were stranded around Hope Bay after their ship was crushed by ice, forcing an unplanned winter ashore.

You cannot treat it like a normal ruin. It is protected under the Antarctic Treaty system, and the point is to understand how thin the line was between exploration and disaster here.
