Lake Lanoto'o

Lake Lanoto'o is a small crater lake in the high, wet interior of Upolu. The walk in is the point: muddy forest, sudden clearings, and the feeling that the coast is much farther away than it really is.

The lake itself is quiet rather than spectacular, but the setting is unusual for Samoa and makes a good change from beach days. Go after a dry spell if possible and expect the trail to be slow.

A story
Lake Lanoto'o is sometimes called the Goldfish Lake because introduced goldfish survive in the crater water. It is a strange sight in the Samoan highlands: a quiet volcanic lake with flashes of orange beneath the surface.
