Savannah Bay is one of the longest and quietest beaches on Virgin Gorda — a mile of soft white sand running along the east coast about two miles north of Spanish Town. There is no resort or restaurant on the bay, no parking lot to speak of, and no cruise-ship excursions, so even in high season it is unusual to see more than a handful of people on the sand.
The snorkelling at the southern end of the bay is excellent — a small reef sits just offshore and is easy to swim out to. The water is clear and shallow for a long way out, and the bay is sheltered from the prevailing east trade winds by the reef. A coconut grove behind the beach provides some shade, but bring sun protection in any case.
Access is by a dirt track off the main road, marked by a small sign for "Sugar Apple Suites." Park at the top of the track and walk the 100 metres down to the sand. Bring water, a snorkel and lunch — there are no facilities at all.
