Spring Bay

A quieter beach just north of The Baths, with smaller granite boulders and excellent snorkelling

Spring Bay sits just north of The Baths and is what The Baths would be if it were not famous: a small white-sand beach scattered with granite boulders, with shaded picnic tables under the sea grapes, and almost nobody there. The boulders are smaller than those at The Baths — none of them house-sized — but they create the same kinds of grottoes and natural pools on a more intimate scale.

The snorkelling is excellent. The reef in front of the beach has good coral cover and plenty of fish, and the water stays clear and calm even when the wind is up. There is a freshwater shower at the back of the beach and a small concession that occasionally sells cold drinks.

Spring Bay is reached on foot in 5–10 minutes from the National Parks Trust visitor centre, which is on the main road south of Spanish Town. There is no admission charge. Many visitors prefer it to The Baths themselves; if the cruise-ship buses have filled the main site, walk on to Spring Bay.
