St. Ursula's Church is the Anglican parish church of Virgin Gorda, named after the early Christian saint whose 11,000 mythical companions gave the Virgin Islands their name when Christopher Columbus sailed past in 1493. The present church is a modest white-painted concrete building on a small rise in the centre of Spanish Town, dating in its current form from the mid-20th century.
The interior is plain — wooden benches, a simple altar, a tin roof — but the building is the social and ceremonial centre of life on the southern half of the island. Sunday services draw a substantial congregation. The church survived Hurricane Irma in 2017 with only moderate damage, and has been the venue for the post-hurricane community memorial services.
The church is on the main road through the centre of Spanish Town, opposite the police station. It is normally open during the day. Visitors are welcome.
