St. Paul's Anglican Church and the neighbouring 1874 day school are among the most important surviving historic buildings in Fort Chipewyan. The church was completed in 1880, using fur-trade-era building methods and Carpenter Gothic details, and later served as a pro-cathedral for the Anglican Diocese of Mackenzie.
The buildings are modest, but that is the point. In a community where weather, fire, and distance have erased much of the old fabric, these structures make the fur-trade and mission era visible.
