Lac La Biche Mission, also known as Notre Dame des Victoires, began in the 1850s as an Oblate mission on the south shore of the lake. It became an important stop between the prairie and the northern mission routes, and the site still has a church, convent, rectory remains, and interpretive displays.
The visit is small but meaningful. It gives Lac La Biche a deeper story than "lake town", especially if you are interested in the complicated meeting of missionaries, Cree and Metis communities, fur-trade routes, and early northern settlement.
