The Bomber Command Museum of Canada is the reason many travellers stop in Nanton. Its centrepiece is a Second World War Avro Lancaster, one of the few surviving examples of an aircraft type that looms large in Commonwealth air-war history.
The museum was built by volunteers, and that shows in a good way. Alongside the Lancaster are aircraft, vehicles, engines, and personal material connected to Bomber Command and the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. It is a stronger museum than a town this size has any right to expect.
