Shaftesbury Trail follows the Peace River south of town for about 26 km, passing old mission sites, farms, wooded banks, and river views. It was once a route used by First Nations and Métis fur traders, and it still feels like the scenic back door into the valley.
Drive it slowly if you have a car. The road is paved and easy, but the point is to stop: for river views, old cemeteries, and the seasonal Shaftesbury Ferry at the far end.
