Historic Hat Creek is the main reason to stop in Cache Creek. The site preserves a ranch and roadhouse on the old Cariboo Wagon Road, with a cluster of wooden buildings, open range, and the kind of dry valley setting that makes the gold-rush road story easy to picture.
The Canadian Register notes buildings dating from 1861 into the 20th century, along with part of the original wagon road and archaeological sites. Visit when the interpretive program is running; otherwise the place loses much of its context.
