The Pacific Rim Artisan Village Gate stands on Willow Street as the sole remnant of an ambitious collective housing and artisan workspace project that never got past its entrance. The gate is a substantial timber structure with carved elements, and its incongruous presence — a gateway to an empty lot — gives it an oddly compelling quality.
It is worth a brief stop during the mural walk, less as an attraction in itself than as a minor piece of local history about ambitions that did not survive contact with financial reality. The contrast between the gate's elaborate construction and what it leads to is the whole point.
