True Grain Bread

True Grain Bread is a small artisan bakery on the main waterfront strip that has become something of a pilgrimage stop for serious bread people. They mill their own heritage grains on a stone mill, which you can sometimes see in operation, and bake a range of sourdoughs, rye loaves, and pastries that are as good as anything on Vancouver Island.

It's a good place for breakfast before heading out to hike or kayak. The cinnamon rolls are famous locally and disappear early on weekend mornings. They also sell whole loaves to take home, and local honey and preserves. The queue at the door is not a bad sign — it moves.
