Mile Zero of the Alaska Highway

Downtown marker for the southern start of the Alaska Highway.

The Mile Zero marker is Dawson Creek's signature stop. It marks the official southern start of the Alaska Highway, the wartime road built in 1942 to connect British Columbia, Yukon, and Alaska by land.

It is a quick visit, but it matters if you are driving north. Take the photo, then spend a little time with the local museums so the highway feels like more than a roadside sign and more like the start of a much bigger story.
