The hot springs are the practical reason most people stop in Fairmont. The pools are developed and resort-run rather than wild, with hot soaking water and cooler swimming space, so the experience is closer to a mountain pool complex than a hidden spring.
That is not a bad thing after a drive through the Columbia Valley or a cold day outside. Go for the soak, not solitude.
