The Fernie Museum occupies a former bank building in the historic centre and gives the quickest grounding in the Elk Valley's coal, fire, labour, and mountain-town stories. It is small, but useful before walking the streets outside: the buildings make more sense once you know how often the town had to rebuild itself.
