Mahoney Lake is small, strange, and scientifically interesting. Its layers do not mix like ordinary lakes, and purple sulphur bacteria can give the water a vivid colour, especially when contrasted with nearby Green Lake.
This is a look-and-learn stop rather than a swimming hole. Go for the unusual ecology and the dry South Okanagan setting around it.
