qathet Canoe Route

Multi-day lake-and-portage route through the forested backcountry behind Powell River.

The qathet Canoe Route, formerly known as the Powell Forest Canoe Route, links a chain of lakes and portages in the working forest behind Powell River. It is not a casual paddle from the town beach: the full route takes several days, uses logging roads for access, and needs proper canoeing and backcountry judgement.

For paddlers, though, it is the area's signature adventure. The route moves through quiet lakes, forest campsites, and enough portages to make every easy glide feel earned. Check road conditions and current route information before setting out, and do not treat the lakes as sheltered ponds when the wind comes up.
