Discovery Cove, also called Ship Cove, is where James Cook anchored during his 1778 visit to Nootka Sound. The site is across the water from Yuquot, with commemorative plaques near the rocks connected to Cook's stay.
It is mainly for paddlers or boat-based visitors. The crossing puts the European contact story in its proper setting: not in a museum case, but across a wide, wet, difficult sound.
