Fort St. James National Historic Site

Fort St. James National Historic Site preserves a restored fur-trade post founded by the North West Company in 1806. Its wooden buildings tell the story of trade between European fur companies and Carrier First Nations around Stuart Lake.

The site is a strong day trip from Vanderhoof for travellers interested in northern British Columbia history. Allow enough time for the buildings and lakeside setting rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.
