Farwell Canyon is a worthwhile drive west of Williams Lake if you want the Cariboo-Chilcotin landscape at its most open and strange. The Chilcotin River cuts through pale limestone walls, with grasslands above and ancient pictographs on the cliff face.
The road access is rural and conditions can change, so ask locally before setting out. It is a better half-day excursion than a quick roadside stop.
