The Gimli Glider Museum tells the story of Air Canada Flight 143, a Boeing 767 that ran out of fuel at cruising altitude in 1983 and glided to a safe landing at the former Gimli air base. It is one of the great near-disaster stories in Canadian aviation.
The museum is small, but the subject is gripping: fuel calculations, cockpit decisions, a dead-stick landing, and a runway that had become a local drag strip.
