Wonderstrands

Long empty Labrador sand beach on the edge of the Mealy Mountains, linked to Viking accounts.

The Wonderstrands are a long sweep of sand on the Labrador coast, often described as the beach noted in Norse accounts of Vinland voyages. The appeal is not swimming; it is scale, emptiness, cold surf, and the strange feeling of a great beach in a subarctic wilderness.

They are usually reached by boat from the Cartwright area as part of a guided trip or expedition. Treat them as remote coast, not a beach day.
