Blow-Me-Down Provincial Park

Blow-Me-Down Provincial Park occupies a rugged headland west of Corner Brook, where cliffs drop toward the Bay of Islands and the wind, as the name suggests, is a genuine consideration. The park has hiking trails ranging from easy coastal walks to more demanding routes up the headland, and the views across the bay to the islands and the Long Range Mountains beyond are some of the finest in western Newfoundland. The name is one of the great Newfoundland place names — a tradition of direct, descriptive naming that the island does better than anywhere.

The park is less visited than Gros Morne and benefits from it. You are unlikely to share a trail with many others, and the combination of dramatic coastal scenery and accessible hiking makes it a good option for a half-day out of Corner Brook. The shoreline has good birdwatching, particularly for seabirds. Bring a windproof layer regardless of the season.
