One of the old stalwarts of George Street, Christian's has been doing steady business for decades and has avoided the worst of the street's drift toward sports bars and DJ nights. It hosts regular live music including traditional Newfoundland folk sessions — fiddle, accordion, and the occasional kitchen party energy that Newfoundlanders do better than anyone. Arrive early on weekends if you want a seat.
The bar itself is nothing fancy: a long wooden counter, low lighting, and walls covered in photographs and memorabilia. Draught beer, local ales, and Screech rum (the Newfoundland staple) are all well represented. A genuine local institution rather than a tourist experience.
