Fort Anne is the essential Annapolis Royal stop. The low earthworks, officers' quarters, and basin views mark a site that changed hands repeatedly as French, British, Acadian, and Mi'kmaq history collided around the river mouth.
Walk the ramparts before or after the museum. The fort is not a towering stone citadel, and that is part of its appeal: the landform itself explains why this small town mattered.
