Guysborough Trail

Rail-trail through Eastern Shore countryside for cyclists and hikers

The Guysborough Trail follows a former rail line along the Eastern Shore, forming part of the Trans Canada Trail network. The converted railbed makes for easy, level walking and cycling through forests of spruce and birch, crossing small bridges over tidal inlets and offering glimpses of Chedabucto Bay through the trees.

The trail stretches for roughly 45 kilometres in this section, but you can walk or cycle any portion — it is not necessary to complete the full route. The surface is gravel and well maintained. In autumn the colours are vivid; in spring the forest floor is carpeted with wildflowers. Wildlife sightings are common: white-tailed deer, osprey, and occasionally moose are seen along the trail.
