Gillies Grove is Arnprior's strongest sight: a protected stand of old-growth white pine beside the Ottawa River. Some trees reach the scale that once made the Ottawa Valley one of Canada's great timber regions.
The main trail is easy and well marked, so this is not a wilderness expedition. The pleasure is simpler: huge trunks, filtered light, and the odd feeling of finding old forest so close to town.
