Chatham-Kent Museum is the practical stop for putting the municipality's scattered stories in order. Its local history collection covers settlement, the War of 1812, and Chatham's place in the Underground Railroad era.
Look especially for material connected with abolitionist John Brown. He held a Convention of Colored Men in Chatham in 1858, shortly before the raid on Harpers Ferry made him one of the most divisive figures in the United States.
