Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History

Historic Dresden site interpreting Josiah Henson, the Dawn Settlement, and the Underground Railroad.

The Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History stands on the former Dawn Settlement near Dresden. Henson escaped slavery, became a minister and community leader, and helped found a settlement that offered education, land, and refuge to freedom seekers.

The site includes an interpretive centre, historic buildings, and exhibits on the Black experience in Canada. It is often still known by its former name, Uncle Tom's Cabin Historic Site, but the current museum frames Henson as a real person rather than only as a literary association.
