Kawartha Dairy

The flagship ice-cream counter of the Kawartha Dairy chain, on the corner of Highway 36 at the south end of Bobcaygeon. The line at the window on a warm Saturday afternoon is a regional institution — a hundred metres of cottagers and day-trippers waiting fifteen minutes for cones.

The product is what you would expect from an Ontario small-town dairy: high-fat ice cream, generous mix-ins, classic flavours done well. Moose Tracks and Death by Chocolate are the regional bestsellers. Cash and card both accepted; open daily from April to October.

A story
Kawartha Dairy started as a small Bobcaygeon creamery in 1937 and stayed family-owned until 2022. Its scoop shops sell cones in slightly more generous portions than seems possible for the price — the "small" is two full scoops and most visitors order a single.
