The lakefront south of downtown has been the city's reclaimed face for thirty years. The Heritage Carousel — hand-painted with northern Ontario wildlife — runs in the summer, a stretch of beach picks up swimmers on warm days, and the marina handles the floatplanes and pleasure boats that work the lake.
The boardwalk extends west towards the Chief Commanda II dock, where small cruise boats run dinner trips along the lake's complex shoreline. The Discovery North Bay heritage museum sits a short walk uphill from the waterfront and is worth combining.
