The Leacock Museum is Orillia's most distinctive sight. It occupies Stephen Leacock's former summer home at Old Brewery Bay, a broad, comfortable house facing Lake Couchiching. Leacock loved Orillia enough to turn it into the lightly fictionalized town of Mariposa in Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town.
The house, grounds, and exhibits are more charming than flashy. Come for the setting as much as the displays, especially if you have read Leacock or want a very Canadian piece of literary nostalgia.
